Here is a story for you to sob to, Tokyo Ueno Station.
By far this is the saddest, most depressing book I have ever read. The ghost of a homeless man who has not fulfilled his purpose during his time alive is trapped within the stations of the Tokyo Ueno Station, seeking for another chance in life within his never-ending loop of despair.
"I used to think life was like a book."
The first line itself has got me hooked in one sitting. Its slow-burn pace and emotion-evoking narrative intrigues the readers in searching the ambiguity of the man's hollow life. Yu Miri did an absolutely remarkable job in executing the poverty and harsh cruelty of human nature during Japan's depression period. She illustrated just how horrid and selfish the humans' ego could be when phased with challenges.
You would want to savour this book word by word, phrase by phrase, and sentence by sentence. For it is the story that you would cherish in the long run.
